Datacenter situatie bij SARA en NIKHEF

November 13, 2008

Datacenter situation at SARA and NIKHEF

November 13, 2008

Due to the recent power incidents at both the SARA and NIKHEF datacenter facilities the Executive Board of the AMS-IX Association has expressed its concern about the service performance of these facilities in comparison with the other datacenter facilities AMS-IX uses and the associated consequences for the AMS-IX platform and the connected members. The Association feels the duty to offer transparency regarding the service levels one can expect at the datacenters that AMS-IX uses.

The definition of a minimum objective standard was never into question before, thus the board has issued instructions to have an independent auditor define this said standard and perform an audit of compliance on all AMS-IX used datacenters. The facilities of SARA and NIKHEF will be the first to be audited due to the recent power-incidents.

In discussions with both parties AMS-IX has made positive mutual agreements about the audit to be performed and the execution of potential improvements based on the findings of the audit. Both have expressed the positive intention to collaborate.

Anticipating the audit results AMS-IX felt the need to inform its members about the situation at both datacenters and published an advice on its website. Unfortunately this statement has resulted in unintended public discussions and conclusions which all parties regret and is therefore put into proper context with this statement.

SARA and NIKHEF have been valued datacenter partners of AMS-IX for many years and are renowned science institutes. At this moment AMS-IX has no intention to leave either datacenter location. AMS-IX values the decades long positive relationship with them and the role they played in the growth of AMS-IX. This is further emphasized by the commitment of both parties to agree to the audit and the intention to conform to the mentioned standard.

EQUINIX AND AMS-IX, THE WORLD'S LARGEST SINGLE METRO AREA INTERNET EXCHANGE, ANNOUNCE INTERCONNECTION AND PEERING PARTNERSHIP

April 23, 2008

Foster City, CA and Amsterdam, Netherlands - April 23, 2008 - Equinix, Inc. (Nasdaq: EQIX), the leading provider of network-neutral data centers and Internet exchange services, and the Amsterdam Internet Exchange (AMS-IX), the world's largest single metro area Internet exchange, today announced a partnership agreement that will extend AMS-IX's peering fabric into Equinix's Amsterdam-1 (AM1) Internet Business Exchange (IBX®) data center. As a part of the agreement, AMS-IX will establish a point-of-presence in Equinix's AM1 IBX center, which is scheduled to open in the third quarter of 2008 and was obtained in the acquisition of Netherlands network-neutral data center provider Virtu earlier this year. Equinix customers will be able to directly exchange traffic, or "peer", with AMS-IX's critical mass of diverse Internet service providers and high-quality traffic exchange participants to increase reliability, improve performance, and reduce the costs of network traffic exchange. Equinix and AMS-IX are leaders in providing network-neutral platforms for the interconnection of enterprise, service provider and content company networks. Located in Amsterdam, AMS-IX is a non-profit, neutral and independent Internet exchange that currently connects over 290 international parties. AMS-IX is the largest European Internet Exchange measured by traffic volume. Equinix is the global interconnection and peering leader, serving the world's leading ISPs, broadband providers, international networks, content delivery networks, enterprises and major content providers. "Our relationship with Equinix goes back several years, and we are pleased to now have a formal agreement where the aggregation of networks from each of our organizations can interconnect in the most efficient and reliable manner possible," said Job Witteman, CEO of AMS-IX. "With the increasing need for businesses to exchange data across a wide variety of networks -- from partners to customers to vendors -- this agreement between AMS-IX and Equinix will ensure additional options for rich interconnection across both of our respective network-neutral platforms." "Peering relationships are a strategic foundation for network and Internet traffic, from email to video," said Margie Backaus, chief business officer of Equinix. "As Equinix expands its global service offering across the U.S., Europe and Asia-Pacific, the company is committed to providing high-performance platforms for exchanging Internet traffic. Partnering with top-tier Internet exchanges like AMS-IX, who have a well-served existing critical mass of high-quality Internet service providers and connected parties operating within their system, will enable Equinix customers to scale their peering relationships to reduce costs and increase performance."

AMS-IX introduces new core switch at its new core site euNetworks Amsterdam

December 12, 2007

AMS-IX introduces a new core switch at its new core site euNetworks Amsterdam. The Foundry NetIron MLX-32 can hold up to 128 10GbE ports - twice the number of its predecessor core switch - and will facilitate expected growth in ports and traffic for quite a while. At the same time, backbone links all across the switch platform have been expanded and upgraded, using advanced DWDM technology for 10GbE, allowing for significant long-term cost savings on fibers in the Amsterdam metro area.

Members of the AMS-IX Association are currently able to order ports at euNetworks. The site's ports will become operational as from the 1st of January, 2008.

AMS-IX Decreases GE Port Prices

November 23, 2007

AMS-IX decreases prices for all Gigabit Ethernet ports from Euro 1,000 to Euro 800 per month per 1st of January 2008.

Due to the growth in members and ports on the Exchange and associated income AMS-IX is able to take this action. All AMS-IX pricing is cost-based and by upgrading the platform substantially to sustain the 10GE uptake the cost base for GE has decreased.
